  • HOW are they used: Over 80% of surveyed drivers use their horn as a form of communication vs. warning. For example, alerting a distracted driver that the light is green or picking your kids up from school

  • WHAT perception do current horns give: Aggressive, monotone & ineffective

Current car horns are aggressive & monotone, which leads them to be ineffective in high danger situations. Current horns are like the boy who cried wolf, how do we know when danger is present?

  1. Volume and tone are self-adjusting

    1. at lower speeds, volume and tone will be lower

      1. customizable sounds: quick double beep, fade low fade high, shifting frequencies, etc.

    2. at high speeds, volume and tone will default to max SPL

      1. sound will be similar to current vehicle horns

    3. at low speed, driver or vehicle can abort low/soft volume to max SPL by operating horn twice within 1 second interval

  2. Lock confirmation and alarm will adjust accordingly.

    1. lock confirmation can be soft when driver presses button once, but can default to loud setting if driver presses lock button twice quickly - depends on programming

    2. alarm will work at the max SPL after first operation

  3. Self-shifting input settings based on voltage input

Our platform is geared for the industrial and automotive industries. The range of our devices can reach up to 115 decibels from two meters, and has the ability to retract to a softer tone between 70 - 90 decibels at that same distance. Meaning, when on the highway our device can hit a sound loud enough to break through background noise, and when at rest it can produce a softer sound to make sure not to startle pedestrians as well as reduce noise pollution. In warehousing and mining, this device can be used to alert, trigger and communicate efficiently because of the different tones and frequencies it can produce. 

The basic principle of how a vehicle horn works hasn't changed since its invention. Through our patented technology and process, we are brining the horn into the 21st century. By using smarter technologies, we can create multiple or single toned pitches from this device. In addition, through our patented process our devices have a longer life cycle than what is currently available. Meaning, our devices will perform time and time again even after extensive and heavy use. 

Through component elimination and smarter technology, we save our customers money because it takes fewer materials to produce a high quality sound. Meaning you get a smaller device that not only cost less, but also is lighter. In addition, the amount of amperes this device draws is about a third of what current car horns draw. In addition, the reduced power consumption allows for thinner gauged wires, smaller fuses and elimination of relays. Meaning, less cost in assembly and materials for our customers. 

One day while walking from my Cincinnati apartment to work, I noticed a driver almost hitting a cyclist while passing him or her - the cyclist had no idea there was a car on their left side. I'm not sure who would have been at fault had there been an accident, but I became curious to learn how future situations like that can be prevented. As a driver, you have a select few ways of communicating, & when it comes to audible communication, there's only your horn. It's great at producing loud sounds to warn of high danger situations, but very poor at communicating otherwise. Current horns don't change volume or tone based on whether you are communicating to a pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle - you only get one sound. 

That's why we developed our cost-effective smart horn, to increase the vocabulary of communication for drivers to both enhance safety & reduce unnecessary noise.

Meerya's mission is just that, launching a successful device that our customers find value in using. 

Sanjiv Patel - Chief Engineer & Co-Founder

 

A degree in Electrical Engineering, & experience in launching a business, Sanjiv first started this work in 1975 in India developing a better horn for scooters & vehicles. This research led him to patenting a prior design. Once the patent was approved, he started manufacturing the product in 1978, which led him to the research Meerya is doing today.
